Mission Statement
Bridge Players Theatre Company, a community theater group based in
Burlington, New Jersey, is dedicated to presenting high quality, affordable
theatrical productions to the community. We offer opportunities, both on and
off stage, by encouraging an active and diverse membership. We invite people
of all ages and from all backgrounds to celebrate their individual talents
and their mutual passion for live theater.
Group History
Bridge Players Theatre Company was founded in 1976 by the late Girard
Paolini and the late Joseph LaCerra, two former residents of Palmyra. When the
Bi-Centennial celebration was being planned, Mr. Paolini, a Palmyra pharmacist,
wrote a musical called, Lets Wave the Flag Once More. It was
performed in Palmyra as part of the planned events. At the conclusion of the
production, those who participated in the production enjoyed themselves so much
that they decided to form a community theater organization. Thus, the birth
of Bridge Players. The name was chosen because of the proximity to and the identification
with the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge. Mr. LaCerra and Mr. Paolini remained active
with the group until their deaths. To this day an award is given to a Burlington
City High School graduate in their memory.
General Information
Everyone who works with our group volunteers their services without financial
compensation. We are ordinary people, from all backgrounds and professions,
dedicated to cultural development. Committed to the idea that there is a place
in community-theater for everyone, we encourage all to participate, both on
and off-stage. We generally present four shows each year, a fall production,
a childrens show, a winter show and a musical.
